A Former Ballet Star Now Shaping the Future of Foot and Ankle Surgery
Miko Fogarty is a former award-winning professional ballet dancer and a current Foot and Ankle Surgery Resident at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Podiatric Residency Program. Born in London and raised in the United States, Miko began her ballet training at a young age and quickly rose to international recognition for her extraordinary talent and artistry.
She gained global attention as one of six young dancers featured in the critically acclaimed documentary First Position, which followed her journey to the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) finals. Miko went on to earn top honors at prestigious international competitions, including winning the gold medal at the Moscow International Ballet Competition at just sixteen years old. Shortly after, she joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the UK’s premier touring company, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a professional ballerina.
Miko later transitioned from ballet to medicine, graduating from medical school and pursuing her passion for helping others through podiatric medicine. Today, she brings the same dedication and discipline from her dance career into the medical field as a foot and ankle surgery resident at Harvard’s BIDMC.
Miko has been a valued collaborator and honorary brand ambassador for AK Dancewear since the beginning. Over the years, she has joined us for key events, taught as a guest instructor, and supported our mission to empower the dance community. Her presence has elevated many of our major activations, including the Pointe22 event in New York City, the YAGP 25th Anniversary Gala, and the ADCIBC Finals in Florida. We are proud to celebrate her remarkable journey from world-class dancer to accomplished physician, and grateful for her continued support of our community.
