Ayaka Kamei: Performer, Dancer and Teacher

Miss Ayaka Kamei, originally from Ehime, Japan, is a versatile freelance dancer and dedicated teaching artist based in New York City. Her career includes performing with renowned productions such as The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and its World Tour, The Metropolitan Opera, Twyla Tharp Dance, MorDance, Sugar Hill Nutcracker, New York Theatre Ballet, Ayalis In Motion, and AZOTH Dance Theatre.

Ayaka has performed works by esteemed choreographers including George Balanchine, Joshua Bergasse, Merce Cunningham, Antony Tudor, Roy Assaf, Aszure Barton, and more. Her journey in dance began at Tatewaki Hiroko Ballet School in Ehime, Japan, followed by studies at Northern Ballet School in England and SUNY Purchase, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a President’s Award for Achievement in the Conservatory of Dance. She further honed her skills through study abroad programs at Codarts in the Netherlands and Springboard Danse Montréal.

As a passionate teaching artist, Ayaka has shared her expertise at institutions such as SUNY Purchase, Gibney Dance, 92Y, Chen Dance Center, Joffrey Ballet School, Musashino University, and Tatewaki Hiroko Ballet School. Since 2021, she has been an integral part of Dance Educational Laboratory (DEL), bringing dance education to public schools throughout New York City.

Ayaka Kamei’s connection with AK Dancewear began at a Finis Jhung teacher’s workshop, where she met Alina Khoo, founder and owner of AK Dancewear. Since the beginning of AK’s inception, Ayaka has been a steadfast supporter and collaborator. Her artistic vision and dedication align closely with our mission to inspire and support dancers worldwide.
